With the warmer weather on the horizon, follow our simple tips to safely use your fire pit.
Preparation
-
Level Surface: Place your burner on a level surface.
-
Clean Bowl: Remove any ash or sand buildup from the bottom of the bowl.
-
Sand Layer: Evenly cover the bottom of the fire pit with 2-4 inches of sharp/builder's sand. Avoid beach sand due to its salt content, which can accelerate corrosion. The sand layer helps retain heat, insulate the bottom, and prevent the ground from burning. It also raises logs and kindling for cooking.
Lighting Instructions
-
Kindling Pyramid: Create a pyramid in the center of the bowl using newspaper, kindling, firelighters, leaves, or twigs.
-
Light and Add Wood: Light the pyramid and gradually add larger pieces of dry wood. Using dry wood minimises smoke.
-
Maintain Fire: Periodically add fresh dry wood to keep the fire burning.
-
Supervision: Never leave the fire unattended while burning.
Prohibited Fuels: Do not use spirits or petrol for lighting or re-lighting.
